The Dunedin City Council (DCC) and Cargill Enterprises have an ongoing relationship that has continued for over 15 years, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability, community support, and local economic development.
The partnership began over 15 years ago with the TV TakeBack scheme, an initiative that saw the DCC engage our services to manage the recycling of electronic waste. Today, this collaboration continues to thrive. We process 5–10% of Dunedin's e-waste, processing materials collected from the Green Island landfill and ensuring responsible recycling of each part. The DCC also directs residents and businesses to us for e-waste recycling.
The DCC's support extends beyond e-waste recycling. We have become a preferred supplier for public seating throughout Dunedin, creating durable and aesthetically pleasing benches and seats, all made locally. From the elegant rose garden seats in the Botanical Gardens to the robust steel-framed seating along the peninsula and bay, and the impressive macro furniture at the albatross colony, our Timberworks division is enhancing the city's public spaces.
Furthermore, the DCC has provided invaluable support to us in other ways. Notably, they facilitated the establishment of the South Dunedin pop-up library by paying rental and assisting with the adaptation of the space, including the installation of carpeting and an office. The DCC also provides a rates rebate, which helps us continue our valuable work.
This partnership is an example of how local government and community-focused businesses can work together to achieve shared goals and create a positive impact.
